The Lunatics' Common Room — Solo Exhibition by Yoanna Walden

Drawing its title from a phrase in John Thomas Perceval's nineteenth-century memoir, The Lunatics' Common Room reclaims a term once used to describe an institutional space. The exhibition conjures a room where people, past and present, who have experienced psychiatric detention can meet, converse, and be heard on their own terms. The project draws inspiration from the lives and works of artists and activists: Antonin Artaud, Osamu Dazai, Bessie Head, Stella do Patrocínio, John Thomas Perceval, Valérie Valère and Unica Zürn.
